XInput Wrapper for DS3 and Play.com USB Dual DS2 Controller
Scarlett,

Sure enough, that did the trick. having the programs run as administrator worked like a charm. Thats great news, seeing now that it should work correctly with most programs. Will there be any fix to get this working without needing to run as administrator all the time? obviously im the administrator myself, but I hope I wont have to run it like that all the time. I should point out too that I did that thing another user suggested with changing the setting in the service under the log on tab to "local system account" because the service wouldnt autorun on its own, or even start manually for the matter. Also, im running Windows 8 pro 64-bit, if that helps anything. As for the shutting down issue, whats odd is that sometimes the system will still shut down properly with a controller connected, but like i said usually it doesn't. I have my system currently setup for "fast boot". Maybe that has something to do with the issue. I'll play around with the settings sometime. Another issue that I have is sleep. If I try to put the computer to sleep, sometimes it wakes back up on its own. Not sure if that particular issue is related to the controller or not, but just pointing it out that maybe its something related to my system in particular. I will play around and try to figure out whats going on when I get a chance. Smile

bloodroke: if you havent already, you might want to make sure you have all of the latest driver/software updates for the driver. I'm not too sure if the drivers you stated before are the latest, but at some point scarlett added rev A1 support, and mentioned that B1 should be working properly as well. Also, does the issue occur the same whether connected via bluetooth or usb? If so then it sounds like you might have a defective DS3, unfortunately. I have old broken controllers, with similar issues that you stated. Cant make any promises, but if you look on the back of the controller, theres a small hole above the model number sticker on the right side, find something small like a paperclip, and press that button to reset the controller. you may want to make sure your not pressing or holding any buttons on your controller as well, same for plugging in or pairing the controller. Oh, and if none of that works, you could always try going into some sort of local game shop (like gamestop) and asking a rep there if they could test out your controller. If they have a working PS3 somewhere, they might be nice enough to allow you to test it out yourself, or test it out for you. Lastly, since the controller is so new, if you still have the receipt maybe take it back where you bought it for an exchange? Hope this helps. Smile

That's my irk with Win8. Even with UAC disabled things will run at standard mode (unlike Vista and 7).

If you don't care about the Windows Store, find the EnableLua reg key and set to 0. This completely kills UAC (Store still uses it even if you slide it to disable) and any Windows Store / Metro app won't run. Anything you run normally will be administrator level.

However I haven't tested an app with an embedded manifest that states it absolutely has to have admin rights....
My Windows 7 64bit pc had the same issue with not going to sleep properly. My controller was connected by Bluetooth using SCPServer. The display shut off, but the hard drive indicator continued flickering. It went to sleep normally after I turned off the controller manually.
Scarlet,

First I want to thank you for sharing your driver with us.

Now some feedback:

Using XInput-Wrapper-SCP-2.2.1.88 worked perfect. But using the other driver in your prototype for bluetooth support (using USB cable, could not get bluetooth to work) has two problems compared with it:
1) L2 and R2 are in the same axis, so cannot press both together. In 2.2.1.88 there was one axis for each.
2) the prototype has some noises on the left stick, just like I also experienced with MotionInJoy, Tamamy's drivers and the default driver included in windows. The noise is like this: moving the stick from the center to the right, exactly when it reaches the maximum X value it, for a fragment of second, receives about half maximum negative value in the Y axis. Same thing happens when moving left. When moving up or down the same occurs, with X getting that negative value. What is strange, is that if after that move the stick about half-way back to center and again to the direction, the noise does not happen. But if I center and move it again (as described above) the noise reproduces. The noise also happens with other movements (example: rotating the stick instead of just moving from the center) but always at same spots (left, top, right and bottom). No noise happens on the right stick. This misbehavior happens exactly the same way in the other drivers I cited, but never happens in XInput-Wrapper-SCP-2.2.1.88.

There is also something I would like to know if anyone can answer me: I'm reaching maximum value for a stick (either left or right stick) in the DS3 when I am physically at about half-way the maximum extend I can move it. Is this normal? (I do not have a PS3, bought the DS3 for the PC, so I'm not used to it)
Scarlett,
Please disregard my previous issue with shutdown. It seems to have been either related to something else (though the issue itself was that the system would not shut down unless the controller was turned off) or related to the Service workaround Tsusai mentioned from before, which I had to do too at the time. I had some other issues with my PC around the same time I noticed the shutdown issue. I didn't have time to mess around up until today, but I also changed the service setting under the log on tab of your ds3 service from "local system account" to "this account" where I put my user account info in. Now when I shutdown the system, it seems as though your service shuts off the controller before the screen even goes black, allowing my pc to properly shutdown. It also seems to connect properly again on restart/boot up. Smile So I would not suggest to change the setting to "local system account" if people are having this issue. I did notice however, after ba'al pointed out his issue with sleep, that I have the same sleep issue as well, where the PC doesn't go to sleep until the controller gets turned off. Smile Speaking of sleep, it's not important at all, but rather more so I am just curious. Would it be possible somehow to have the controller wake up a sleeping PC upon turning the controller on, similar to the ps3 powering on with the controller?

Gevaerd,
In the "game controller settings" in windows, when I click properties, under the test tab where you can check your controller inputs, in the bounding square box for the left analog stick, I notice on all 4 sides of the box, I can push the analog at maximum (meaning at the edges of said box) while my analog stick still has a little room to be pushed all the way. However, within the corners of the same box, my analog sticks physically go all the way to the edge with little to no room and are about the same in the corners of the box. Smile the x & Y rotation bars to the right of the box, for the right analog stick are about the same as the square sides on the left stick, where I can get to the maximum or minimum of the bars, while phsycially my sticks have a little extra room. But in both cases I would not say it would be halfway, a little more than halfway. Hope that helps at all. Smile As for the L2 & R2, I notice they do not even show up in the game controller properties, although they do work or me. Not sure if I can't use them at the same time though, as I haven't tried.

Oh, and as for compared to a PS3, I have noticed in some games where the issue is the same. Say for example a character runs a maximum speed, and I still have a little more room to physically push the analog stick all the way.
@Gevaerd: it sounds like you have a faulty controller (or USB cable/port). When you say "makes a noise" what do you mean? Windows plays a sound, or the the controller itself make the sound?

L2/R2 share the Z-Axis in DInput only (default for an X360 controller), they are separate in XInput. Use the SCPUser app to view.

@unvaluablespace: have you calibrated your controller in game controller settings?

I noted in Post #153 that the Z-Axis (Triggers) was not displaying correctly in Win 8 in Game Controller settings.

I'm looking in to the Sleep mode thing. I've been working on getting the Virtual Bus working on XP and Vista, which is now up and running. I've just got to tidy up the code, then I'll be releasing the first alpha, may look at adding Sleep/Wake support for that.

By noise I do not mean sound... I mean noise in the axis signal, the temporary incorrect signal value I told you (always orthogonal to the stick position when it goes exactly to left, top, bottom or right).

When I first noticed this I was using MotionJoy and had a CECHZC2U controller. I thought it was faulty and exchanged in the store. I now got a CECHZC2H controller and same thing happened. This last controller is the one that I tried with all the drivers.
Do you think it is possible to be the USB cable? Since I'm using the same cable, one that came with a digital camera I got.
But if it is hardware fault (either controller or cable), shouldn't it also happen in the XInput-Wrapper-SCP-2.2.1.88?

Thanks for the detailed explanation, that exactly what I wanted to know. Looks like in mine the maximum value is reached before that yours. Because even in test box corners my controller still has significant physical space to its physical corner. And this happened with 2 different controllers.

I will try to borrow an official ps3 usb cable to see if the same thing happens.
@Gevaerd: the main difference between an X360 and DS3 in the X/Y axis is the range [-32767 to 32767 for an X360, 0 to 255 for a DS3].

Can you run SCPUser.exe and test if you see the same issue.
1. In bin\Win32 - rename XInput1_3.dll to _XInput1_3.dll, then run ScpUser.exe. [this will use Native XInput]. Observe the Left Thumb output.
2. In bin\Win32 - rename _XInput1_3.dll to XInput1_3.dll, then run ScpUser.exe. [this will use a scaled DS3 feed from the Service/Server]. Observe the Left Thumb output.

If you no longer see the issue, then it is a DInput issue. May be fixed by Calibrating the DS3 in Game Controller settings.

If you are still seeing the issue then it is a hardware fault.

What operating system, service pack, x64 or x86 are you using?
Also make sure you have the latest DirectX redist and X360 drivers installed.
@Gevaerd: X360 - Analog Range Graph. The X360 tries to be more "circular" so it doesn't reach the corners, so if the DS3 does reach the corner you'll see from the big circle that a lot of real stick range would be wasted. And it would be why you can reach the horizontal and vertical edges quite before the edge of the stick itself.
