Xbox 360 controller??

I am borrowing a xbox 360 controller from a friend. All the guides to set up a controller on PC are either inconclusive or not working. it shows up "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play & Charge Kit" on windows.

is it a wireless controller that you're trying to connect with the charger?

You need one with a wire or a wireless receiver:

I use the wireless receiver, works perfectly.
