Xenosaga

A 3.1 ghz Haswell can get through it somewhat okay with a lot of speed hacks and no interlacing which provides the final FPS heightening push to make it tolerable (60fps much of the time). But there still will be occasional frame drops. This is except for heavier mech battles which require SW mode.

I was actually kind of shocked an RPG requires so much processing power given there's not too much going on physics-wise but I guess that's just the nature of the beast with gen 6 emulation, although I have to wonder how anyone was able to run this game decently in PCSX2 in say 2009 or so without a rather expensive processor.

I guess most of the progress that has been made in processors since then has just been "ADD MORE CORES" rather than making individual cores more powerful which is what PS2 emulation needs, although I hear Haswell does have some somewhat large improvements for emulation.

The main thing is the heavy and unique way that Xenosaga uses the VU1.

You need a Single Threaded Performance of about 1600 to get through this game with only minor frame drops. So a Piledriver chip at 4.2Ghz+ or any good Intel I5 Ivy Bridge chip(or high end Sandy Bridge) and up should do the trick. Except for the mech battles.

uhh I believe around 0.9.8/0.9.9 if not mistaken and only the recommended hacks there was no MTVU back then. It's been awhile, but 50 to 55 was the highest but mostly it was around 40 to 42.

Yeah, that makes sense then, since the demands have grown a good bit since then.

Hmmm...also Digital Devil Saga has some minor frame drop. Mah, Is my pc so weak? XD
How can I overclock it? Is it a save option?

If you are talking about your mobile CPU, you can't OC it.

That would be pointless for pcsx2

Good luck with Xenosaga. Add a ghz and get pretty much a full running game. Least you don't have a FX chip. That is why I OCed my cpu was to play that game at 100%. Even then I got a slowdown here and there.. I actually helped Bliss get his Xenosaga Ep 1 running correctly. Amd for the fail.... Least for emulation.
