Xenosaga Ep. 1 crash during cutscene
#1
I've been playing xenosaga episode 1 on PCSX2 1.0.0 (r5350) and I've gotten around 10 hours completed without any real problems (other than the save bug). However, my game keeps crashing at the same point in one of the fmv cutscenes (it's when you are leaving the dock colony, during the cutscene of the desert in Kenya with doctor mesuda). I've tried a few different video plugins and it keeps crashing at the same spot. If I try skipping the cutscene, I end up with a black screen, although the menu option still works and I can see the minimap in the corner.

I know this problem happened to others with previous versions of the psx2, but the game is considered playable so i was wondering if anyone know how to solve this issue?

looks like you used some patch to split your DVD into 2 discs.
re-rip your original DVD using imgburn (www.imgburn.com) and it should be ok

I was having the exact same crash and I used IMGBurn too. But when I went into the settings for Read I noticed it had Split function set to auto. As I write this I am setting this option to none. Hopefully that works. I don't know the exact settings to use in IMGBurn but I just recently bought Xenosaga Episode one and am quite glad I did.

Update: Okay well I did the read copy of dvd and I still got the crash though I must say my game looks very nice. Is there specific settings I need to set for IMGBurn?
Here is my log:

not really.
but this one could come from a corrupted savestate.
try again with your memcard save only

Okay will try that. That maybe the issue. But it would mean I have to redo a bit, backtrack all the way to scene where MOMO and Ziggy are in hyperspace battle. Thanks for the tip.

Update: It was the savestate that was corrupted. I started all the way from where I saved last and didn't do any savestate saves and I was able to pass the scene. Thanks for the help. I am glad that is all it was.

I just completed the game on 5491 svn It never crashed once just the annoying saving issue. and the random slow down for no reason and I use alot save states with in games saves.

There is no setting to set on imgburn just pick create image from disk and it by defualt will make 1 7.88gb iso

If you use MTvu hack it can cause corrupt save states I personally never had a problem with that ever happening though

Sidenote Best RPG I played in long long time including current gen rpgs that i frankly hate most of. Bought it on release and didnt beat it till just today.

I figured it out. My img file was good but I did a lot of stuff with save state that could've easily caused the corruption. It is working fine now. Surprisingly though there is only a few areas with save issues in game. BUt just about every area I can save without it exiting to browser. So that is the good side of things.
