Xenosaga - Help for running the game at a stable FPS [AMD]
#1
Hey, I hope I'm posting on the right place.

For years I've been trying to play Xenosaga (Ep 1, at least) through PCSX2, but the game never ran at a stable framerate. The game can run up to 300% in menus, overworld varies between 70% and 100%, and battles are usually at 80%. However, tweaking around the video plugins don't really ever seem to improve the framerate whatsoever. Wether I'm using native resolution or if I'm using texture upscaling (up to 6) doesn't change anything, really, which is kind of weird, as I'd expect the game to run worse when I upscale the resolution. I know it's a GPU intensive game, so it probably has to do with my specs, but if there's any way I can improve this, I'd like to know.

I've tried using lots of different options.
Those are the ones that were recommended through the wiki, and many YT vids :

I've yet to try any other specific plugins.

I tried using the more recent 1.5.0 versions but everytime i try to install them, but everytime I try to install it says it's incompatible with my drivers. I'm on the latest ones and i tried to download PCSX2 versions some from both this year and 2018, but it still never seems to successfully install, so I'm stuck on 1.4.0.

I just want to know if it's "normal" that I can't run Xenosaga because of my mid specs. I did play through a few PS2 games with the same emulators and i never had many problems with them, though they were less GPU consuming games like Gitaroo Man, Yakuza 2, SMT3, Evergrace, Persona 3/4...

My specs are :
-Operating System
Windows 10 Famille 64-bit
-CPU
AMD FX-6350 69 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology
-RAM
8,00 Go Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 647MHz (9-9-9-24)
-Motherboard
ASRock 970 Extreme4 (CPUSocket) 33 °C
-Graphics
CPL AIO PC (1600x900@60Hz)
Maestro222Ws (1920x1080@60Hz)
4096MB ATI Radeon RX 470 Graphics (Sapphire/PCPartner) 54 °C
-Storage
223GB TS240GSSD220S ATA Device (SSD) 24 °C
1862GB Western Digital WD Elements 1078 USB Device (USB (SATA)) 33 °C

Thank you very much.

your cpu doesn't support avx2 instruction set.
use gsdx SSE4

Keep in mind that the very first Xenosaga was one of the heaviest out of the trilogy, but to change which plugin you use is open pcsx2 > Config > Plugins/BIOS Selector > Plugins > there should be a pulldown menu (GS) Choose SSE4.1/AVX one.

Seems like it runs even worse...

why ?
moreover, 1.5.0 cannot be installed anyways, because it's a portable package
