And no working repair function...
We had this issue now a couple of times....

There is a manual hack though. I read somewhere that you can set the current direct x version somewhere in the registry. So you can set it to an old version and the installer will overwrite all existing files finding an outdated directX.

Yeah.

HKLM>Software>Microsoft>DirectX

There should be an entry there called 'Version' with the value of 4.09.00.0904 when 9.0c june is installed.

Modify that value 4.08 and it'll act as if DX8 is installed.
