hi folks , could you give me your opinion if there is a best operating system to use for pcsx2 im currently running xp sp3 ? And also im running an Intel Pentium D 940 3.2GHz Dual Core Processor and geforce 9600gt , is it worth overclocking the cpu ? and are there any mods for the graphics card i should be aware of? thanks

Well since you have a DX10 supporting graphics card, I'd recommend using Windows 7 to take advantage of the nice speed boost the DX10 mode of GSdx give you. Although if you have 1 GB ram or less, the system might struggle.

Overclocking will give you some more frames but in general your Pentium D won't cut it for most games..if you can upgrade to a Core 2 Duo at about 3 Ghz (or more) and you'll get a huge speed increase.

Mods for the graphics card? What do you mean?

...if you mean HW mods for OC-ing graphic card, forget it! many people that I know screwed their GFX card...

then use Nvidia system tools to overclock the GPU and set it to overclock when pcsx2.exe is started and go back to normal clocks when it is shut down

remember to do small step at a time
2% overclock steps and check the heat during at least 20 mins of load

so for example u were to have 600-500-1500 as clocks

step 1 612-510-1530
play game 20 mins, check temp with GPU-Z

if its ok, go 624,520-1560 check temp with GPU-Z

and so on

personally i put more into memory and core than shaders but thats because i want my GDDR2 1GB to have about the same speed as the 512MB GDDR3 (only 400 points difference in 3Dmark 05 for me now Laugh, 11934)

there are however GPU coolers for sale wich you mount on your GPU

i think get the E8400...since its cheaper, then Overclock it Laugh
e8400 (and all e8xxx series) is easy to overclock...it will give boost performance in PCSX Laugh

if you are lucky you can get E8400 above 4ghz and then there is no game that would work bad on PCSX2
Check my profile for hardware/software and games i played on PCSX2.

thanks for the advice . does anyone have a link to cpu and motherboard compatability ?as i have seen varying reports on whether the e8400 or e8500 is compatable with an asus v series p5945g motherboard. it has the 775 socket ????

On your gfx card use

furmark to test your OC
http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

and use evga precision to overclock simple tool
http://www.evga.com/PRecision/

My thoughts on gfx card OCing is start with shaders first (unlock Core from shaders) then do core then memory my opinion

and on your cpu mobo issue

all i found was this searching so it should work might want to update the bios first though

e7500 + asus mobo $219 (dont know your budget)
