dragon quest v map glitch

so i'm playing dragon quest v, and if i have the resolution turned up (it's at 4x in this screenshot) i get these little grid lines on that map, as well as the little sideways L shape to the right of the cursor. 

is there a way to get rid of these? if not i'll happily press on, but if there were a fix...
