lm having trouble with emulation on nba 2k10, smackdown vs raw, fifa, pro evolution. no matter what i do with the settings there is a persistent lag. checked compatibility list but didn't help

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.

The version of PCSX2 you are using.
Any non default settings you are using.
What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD

Your computer isn't powerful enough. speed hacks hack will help but you cant expect miracles.

2.10 ghz is a bit weakn and you probably won't get playable speeds even with speedhacks.
start by enabling all recommended ones, set gsdx internal res to native, ee cycle rate & vu cycle stealing to 1.
mkae sure your laptop's power plan is set to high performance too.

but don't expect miracles with this laptop
