more accurately its not legal because it isn't your copy of the program.

The only ISO's i know you are legal to download are linux iso's and windows isos (providing it is just the iso and no license is with it), plus of course any freeware programs.

Add anything that was free to begin with:
An ISO made of the DVD with your vacation trip videos is obviously legal for you to distribute.
If it's any kind of licensed software (all games for example), it's illegal (as Ref said).

a nice opportunity to ask this: I bought 2 ps2 games from ebay, they advertise they are boxed, but used. Although they had genuine boxes, one of them was written on a dvdr. So, did I pirate the software?

I also have a "legallity" question: Is it legal if (legally) buy a game but it breaks and then you download the same exact game from the internet?

@vrekman64 Well, if you destroy/trash/burn/etc. that pirated game I think everything will be fine.

The act of downloading a copy of a game you own is still illegal, I'm afraid.
It's one of these things that needs new laws for the "digital age". It was
made when it was expected you'd send the disc in for replacement.
Obviously that's going to be hard with stuff that's now almost retro.

Nowadays, digital download is common. In my opinion, if you own games, you can download the ISOs. Anyway, it might be illegal, technically.
