pcsx 1.0.0 settings help!

I've just got the pcsx 1.0.0 and I am having a hard time playing games as they are really slow and lag even though my computer is a good enough system could anybody show me some good settings please?
My system is xfx 7950 dd, amd phenom 965 x4 and 8gb of ddr3 ram.

w/ no regret your computer is decent
you maybe running other programs that disturbs pcsx2 performance
in addition to AMD's CPU temperatures best to check the temps. running CoreTemp and pcsx2 simeontenously for about an hr.
