please help - slow game play
#1
Hello All,

Somewhat new to emulation (just finished playing EarthBound and SMRPG for the xth time)

Trying to play my PS2 games on my PC now, but I have really REALLY slow FPS.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to image my PS2 disk before I play?

Comp Specs follow:
Intel Quad 2.4 OC'ed to 3.2GHZ
Dual XFX 8800 GPU's factory OC'ed (in SLI Mode)
4GB RAM
3.2TB of HD Space left

Average FPS is around 20 when not redrawing a bunch of frames. Ugh.

Any help would be appreciated to get somewhat normal gameplay!!!

If you're having fps issues first thing you must do is post your FULL configs, coz knowing your specs doesn't give anyone _any_ idea of the reasons.

What graphics plugin are you using? a screenshot of the graphics config would help.

Also a screenshot of your cpu config.

What Operating system are you running it on?
What game are you trying to play that gets you low fps?

Mortred,

Probably more information than you need, but perhaps it will work.
Res. 800x600 (Windowed)
Renderer DX9 (Hardware)
Pixel Shader 3
No interlacing

Graphics Plugin (i think, found in Config?)
GSdx 890 (MSVC 10.00 SSE2) 0.1.14

Sound SPU2-X 1.1.0

CPU:
Vendor, GenuineIntel
Family, Intel Core 2 Quad
CPU Speed, 2402 MHZ (Thought maybe I shouldn't OC the processor)
Features, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE3
EERec is enabled
VU0rec is enabled
VU1res is enabled
Multi Threaded GS mode is enabled
Frame limiting is set to VU Skip
Detailed Settings are all 0

OS
Windows XP Professional SP3

Games tried:
Entire Xenosaga Series
Final Fantasy X-2
Dirge of Cerberus
Capcom vs SNK 2

I've tried almost every permutation I could think of setting wise (granted, it was around 3a.m. so I might have missed a few)

Thank you so much for your time to help a n00b!

you put SSE3 2 times xD, it's SSE3, SSSE3. Smile

also why don't you use the SSSE3 version of gsdx (your cpu supports it Tongue)
Windows 7 64bit
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 OC to 3.6GHz, Intel GMA x4500, 1GB DDR2

... i knew that... ;-;
Is that an option in the "Speed Hacks" menu? Currently have it set to "Use x3 Cycle Rate.

Sorry if I sound so much like a n00b, haven't used PSX since the original PS1 emulator!

version of the graphics plugin that you can use Smile (the SSE3 and SSSE3 are hardware features of your cpu Smile)
Windows 7 64bit
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 OC to 3.6GHz, Intel GMA x4500, 1GB DDR2

A few things:

Let start with your graphics plugin, You state that you have a core 2 quad. Now if i am not mistaken all core 2 quad series cpu's support SSSE3 at least so thats the plugin you should use. (where you select gsdx choose the ssse3 version)

In the graphics config best not use a predetermined resolution, click the native check box and it will use the resolution the game was made for.

For the frame limiting in the cpu setting i suggest setting that on limit(2nd one), just so the game is more enjoyable.

Finally you can also use speed hacks to increase speed. if needed, the INTC speed hack works well.
