what am i doing wrong?

ok ive been dieing to get this thing going i get all the bios and plugins i need download ffx2 i used for testing (crappy game but the old lady liked it lol) it starts at a normal speed hovering about 60 fps but right when u hit new game it drops to like 25 fps and gets realy awfull my sys should handle it im running a p4HT 3.2 2 gigs ram and a nvidia 8400 gs 512 mb gfx card ok i know my p4HT might b the prob but every one told me i needed a proper dual core for gta4 and the last remnant and i run them great so i dont know if any one has any insight on the matter ur input would be greatly appreciated
