widescreen fixes for games that already have widescreen option?

Im curious. Why is there widescreen cheats for games that already have widescreen in their options? For example, GTA games already have widsecreen, but there is also widescreen patches for them. Does it improve performance in any way?

A lot of games didn't do widescreen properly, they just cropped the bottom or something and called it a day, it was pretty bad, some games didn't even adjust the HUD to not stretch. so people made widescreen patches to do it properly.
