widescreen patches not working

I have the macbook pro m3 and so far I've tried burnout revenge, tekken 5, grand theft auto san andreas and silent hill 2 and it seems like no matter what I do I can't get widescreen to display properly without the image looking stretched. Is there a workaround for this or is this a macbook os issue? I have the widescreen patches enabled. appreciate the help.
