that CPU is a early entry but still fine to me but the GPU is poor and low bandwidth GPU
what game you gonna try?

Definitely faster than a Pentium 4 3.4GHz.

You can try, just a question though, you have 2 mobos right? (one for Intel 445 socket and other for AM2). Otherwise, one of them is not gonna work.
CPU: i7 930 @ 2.8GHz(Everyday)/3.6GHz(Gaming)/4.0GHz(Encoding)
GPU: Geforce GTX 480 @ 850MHz/1001MHz
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E
RAM: 2x3 6GB OCZ @ 1527MHz 8-8-8-24

well go for the AMD since its 2 cores than a pentium 4 which is 1.. but if the pentium 4 is hyper threading.. i guess there will be a slight difference.. the more latest the cpu is much better..

How much are you paying for the AMD Athlon64 x2 + AM2 socket mobo? If it's over 100, I'd just considering getting i3 or Core 2 Duo and a LGA 775 or 1156 (depending on Core 2 Duo or i3), which will be much faster than AMD Athlon64 x2 with the same frequency of 2.6Ghz, both at running PCSX2 and everything else in general.
On a side note, I'd try to overclock that P4 of yours to 4.0Ghz (assuming its native clock is 3.2Ghz), if you can get your hands on a good aftermarket cooler that fits the LGA 445 socket (I think P4s are LGA 445, correct me if I'm wrong).

first pcsx2 only uses 2 cores any extra will be ignored look for less cores more ghz the gpu is ok dont change it if you dont have money more ram dont give more speed in pcsx2
