Do i need a new video card. or a new cpu. Or both. I have this

IMHO you need both.Go buy a new system ^^

First of all, Pentium D's are the black sheep of Intel's dual core family. It's just 2 P4 mushed together. So don't expect too much from that CPU. Your GPU is fairly old, so it doesn't help emulation much. For GSDX, use GSDX9. You may have Vista, but your GPU does not support DX10. Since your GPU does not even support DX10, it follows that it will never support DX11.

In short, if you're looking for ssse3, sse4.1, or sse4.2, go with the latest core 2 duo or i7 or even i5. Just keep in mind that you'll also need to upgrade that GPU.

for ssse3 you need a Intel Core 2 Duo proccesor any is good, for sse4 Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn series or above, meaning the E7xxx, E8xxx models for dual cores and the Q9xxx models for quad cores. All Intel i7 models also supported.

Don't think you have to have SSSE3 or SSE4.X support though to play this emu full speed. My new proc (see my sig) plays every game I've tossed at it like a champ and it can only use the SSE2 plugins.

So you can play games at full speed with sse2.


If i update my video card to nvidia 8000 series and above will that help?

i don't have a intel prosseser and i run find there are some good things about them but thee old now the emu has improved alot so its not as much needed to run most games now

Aren't you forgetting the fact that the Pentium D is a relatively old processor (much older than the Phenom) that doesn't even have a good architecture to begin with? And then there's the fact that it's a Vista PC with only 1GB of RAM. So yeah, no matter how you look at it, that system is going to need more than just a new GPU to run PCSX2 at full speed.

SqLeon: Your problem is mostly your old processor... a better video card (DX10 capable) would definitely help, but the CPU is the main problem. I was only stating that you can upgrade to a CPU that doesn't have SSSE3 or SSE4.x and still get full speed on the emu.

You need to buy a new system with those settings... Everything there performs quite badly. Check if your motherboard would support the newest components out there or well, good components. If it does, only upgrade CPU, GPU, and RAM.

If not, get a new PC altogether.
