Since you should easily get full speed on ffx atleast there is either a problem with your setup or your pc. In any case you need to provide more info. Post shots of all your settings/plugins.
Dragon Quest VIII needs like 4Ghz to run at 60fps mostly of the time, I got 60fps at 4Ghz but with my video card, I can't use other resolution but native, so overclocking a little higher is the answer, but you should be close to full speed at 3.8...
PCSX2 version? Plugin settings? PCSX2 settings? What do the EE/GS% numbers in the game window say when you get slowdowns?
anyone?
@ Butz
I don't think he needs to overclock, even if his CPU is causing the lag, I'm sure speedhacks would give a good boost, and setting Clamp Modes to None may do the same.

@ Deadcold
Like Shadow Lady said, what PCSX2 version and what do the EE/GS% numbers in the game window say when you get slowdowns? Maybe take a screenshot of the game running where you get bad FPS and post it here.

Overclocking makes a huge difference in this game, look I got 60fps in this game almost all the time, sometimes I got 55 fps xDDD. But as I said before this is for my video card, now his CPU is not too great for Pcsx2, but at 3.8 he must be reaching 50fps at least in this game

I was able to get DQ8 to run fairly good and I only have a 2.4 GHz Dual Core.

GSdx 3623 at Native Res with Texture Filtering Grayed out and not 8bit. Max EE Cyclerate, 2 VU Cycle Stealing, INTC SPin Detection, and Wait Loop detection for speedhacks. Used superVU with Chop/Zero round mode and Normal Clamp Mode, Flush to Zero and Denormals are Zero enabled.

Those were my settings (I think, pretty sure). The emulator reported ~55-60 fps but I know it was not actually getting that (due to the speedhacks) but it kept the sound from skipping. Didn't notice any lag inside, outside areas were the main problem. Not to bad though and tilting the camera at the ground while outside allowed me to move around at what seemed normal speed to me.

Also I thought the game lagged the worst in the first few areas, specifically that first town. Could just be me getting used to it and not paying close enough attention anymore.

Yes, but I'm not using speed hacks, I prefer accuracy Tongue
