Remember, the archive has a readme with a list of games that already have widescreen. ;p
My bad, I never bothered to scroll down far enough to see that. Ninja
Hi everybody!
First I want to thank devina40 for all (s)he made to perpetuate PS2 gaming on new displaying technologies!

Then I want to tell various things:

1) I found 2 games with native widescreen mode, not mentionned on the wiki page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pl...HD_support ):
- Buzz! The Mega Quizz seems to autodetect PS2 internal 16:9 config + we can toggle it in the game Options menu.
- I strongly believe Mana Khemia 2 featuring widescreen too (autodetect) because on-screen round elements are perfectly circular, and when I set my TV to 4:3, they become stretched vertically!

2) I'm available to provide games elf and test patches with retail games on a real PS2 (+ emulator if needed) connected on a LCD TV with an official PS3 component cable.
Here is a list of the games I own:
green = widescreen pnach works / yellow = not sure, need further test / red = not working
(PAL-French only)
Dragon Quest VIII (SLES_53974) -> not tested yet
Final Fantasy X (SCES-50491) -> need to be ported, like FFX-2
Final Fantasy X-2 (SLES-51816) -> ported by me from the german version: http://forums.pcsx2.net/attachment.php?aid=45489
Kingdom Hearts 2 (SLES-54232) -> confirmation: the PAL-Fr pnach works
Warriors Orochi 2 (SLES-55383)

(PAL multi or english only)
Mana Khemia - Alchemists of Al-Revis (SLES-55443)
Persona 3 FES (SLES-55354)
Resident Evil Code Veronica X (SLES-50306) -> this is the version with the Devil may Cry Trial Edition bonus disc)
Rogue Galaxy (SCES-54552)
Suikoden V (SLES-54087)
Wild Arms 5 (SLES-54972)

[PAL, need to determine if french only or multilingual]
Onimusha 3 (SLES-51914)
Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater (SLES-82013)

[PAL games with native widescreen]
Buzz! Le Mega Quizz (54497) -> see above
Burnout Revenge (SLES-53507)
Final Fantasy XII (SLES-54355)
Jak 3 (SCES-52460)
Ratchet & Clank 3 (SCES-52456/P)
Tekken 5 (SCES-53202/P)
WipeOut Fusion (SCES-50005)

3) I look forward for widescreen + progressive modes (480p/576p) combo on patches! Laugh
Fulfilling another request on the list...

I present Spiderman 2, NTSC (SLUS_207.76)
This pnach might require a render fix, and probably should be tested by anyone with a more graphically stronger computer than myself...

As well, continuing from my last post, this is an example of a game where fixing the HUD is a huge pain. Not only are different parts of the HUD separated in different addresses, but some parts are also divided into 4 parts, which naturally means 4 different addresses for that one part...
And while I managed to fix the HUD size to be as pixel perfect as I could get it, it might appear glitchy everytime the HUD appears off and on screen. The game seems to recalculate the HUD size value everytime it appears and disappears offscreen. It's kinda hard to explain, but you'll understand what I mean, when you try it out. The values I calculated are for when the HUD is onscreen in the top left so...as long as the HUD stays on screen, it should be fine (as you can see from the screenshot).

Very nice job Flameofrecca. Smile

Could you do a favor and examine Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 for any possible HUD fixes?

Thanks for the .pnach!

And yes, sadly, 2D stuff is harder and more luck-based since all games are different. I've been using the Elf Search Tool a lot and using the matrix hack, which is the first thing I do. There's a strong chance that the matrix hack might affect 2D elements:

00000000 00000000 43AD1346 00000000
to
403F013C 00008144 43AD1346 02C60046

The next thing I do is use Hyakki's Widescreen Helper and change 3F800000 (value 1) to 3F400000 (value 0.75) and watch the game in PCSX2 to see if anything changes horizontally or vertically, or changes size. A lot of games use X and Y elements (we want the X axis), and their addresses are usually right next to each other and because the program changes values at lightning speed, it may result in something getting smaller. (Of course, I use lots of load states and save states) If I see anything worth investigating, I then open Cheat Engine and pinpoint that address and see if it has any effect that can benefit widescreen.

The final thing I do is put the .elf file in Elf Seach Tool and input "803f013c to 403f013c". I'll usually get a huge list of codes, in the hundreds, and put them in a .pnach. Because there's so many codes being loaded, there's a chance the game may crash. If that happens, I usually just remove the earlier codes and experiment a little. I then play the game and see if any elements are unstretched.

If there is, I copy and paste codes in the .pnach lots of time to pinpoint the address I want, and if the element becomes stretched again when I remove codes to pinpoint, I put it back and delete everything else (trial-and-error!). This is how I found out how to narrow the portraits in FFX-2.

@99skull:

I thought Batman Begins already has in-game 16:9?

It's good to see that some progress is being made in adjusting the aspect ratio of 2D elements. If people were somehow able to find a way to adjust the size of Huds, text, and other 2D elements, I think the games would look unbelievable in hardware mode. I would like to help but it seems pretty confusing. I can't tell the difference between codes, which ones are relevant out of the hundreds of codes or what to look for. It seems overwhelming. Nonetheless, it's good to see people attempting to find solutions so we can have true widescreen.

Btw, I don't know if it's being done or not, but I think it would be helpful to keep a listing of all current patches and what needs to be done to make them perfect. For example, if you have a game which has a patch which already has widescreen but could use a HUD fix or text fix, it should be noted so people know what to work on.

Honestly, I would, but I don't have those games unfortunately...All the pnachs I've done are from games I have. I don't know how everyone seems to be releasing such a massive list of pnachs. Perhaps there's something I'm missing, but damn...You guys/girls must have a HUGE library of ps2 games.

I wouldn't exactly call it progress. Like I said before, I just search random float values in cheat engine and hope that I find an address that controls some parts of the HUD, then go from there. The process can take literally a couple hours, obviously because like you said, there are thousands of addresses to search through. I'd make a tutorial, but there isn't really anything to teach, cause I just search randomly...

Regarding keeping a list, it would probably be easier making a list of games that DO have HUD fixes (as the list would be much shorter) lol.
here's a patch for rozen maiden gebetgarten (ntsc, SLPM_667.12), for all 5 people who play this.

it only deals with the battles and 3d model preview, since the rest of the game is more like a 2d text adventure visual novel thingy, drawn for 4:3 scale.

i tried to fix the character faces in that not to be so wide, but couldn't find a way to do it, oh well.
Some good unrelated widescreen news, the KH Final Mix English project has made some good progress and its set goal release date is in October. Wink

Some semi-related: I hardcoded the matrix + textbox width hacks to the ELF today. (Already had a few things aligned specifically for widescreen, so... Wink)
I got to say, the textbox fix was a huge pain to get in... had to make a hook and everything. It is possible though.
Unfortunately, because of my laziness, I used a free space created by a shorter string table for the hook function, thus making the hardcoded textbox fix non-portable. You only need 6 lines for the hook function though, so not too big....

Great find with those though, now if I could just get a EVT (subtitle) fontfix too. (I found a place to shrink the width, but it messes up other offsets.)
