Qwestion is why dose it speed-up when lowering the internal res?, 512 is as low as its alowed to get

Are you really this dumb, or are you just screwing around with us? Seriously. What part of "lower resolution is going to be faster" don't you understand? That's how technology has always worked. If you want better framerates at higher internal resolutions, get an even better video card.

(but at a certain point you'll be limited by your CPU and not your GPU, and faster cards won't help anymore)

... and this is horribly off-topic. "My video card sucks?" inquiries are not an issue with GSdx, or PCSX2 for that matter.

I have not got a clue all i know, I was pissing around with it and it just dose that, The higher i set it the slower the fps get... The lower i set it the faster the fps whent?!

The more pixels your card has to draw, the worse the performance will be. It's that simple. Lowering resolution will increase performance, always, without fail, in any 3d application that has ever been written.

(09-22-2009, 04:30 PM)JPaul Wrote: [ -> ]I have a question regarding internal resolution:

What should I be using if I play all of my games in 1280*1024? The PS2 aspect ratio is 4:3, so should I be using 1280*1024 as my internal resolution even though it's 5:4? Does it even matter?

Doesn't matter. You can optionally use this feature to increase/decrease the fidelity of a particular axis -- some games look better with higher Y res than X, for example, because of interlacing. But the aspect ratio is fixed when the internal buffer is rendered to screen. So for that it's not important.

I don't mean to be a *****, but you don't seem to know anything about what you're talking about.

You should go do some (light) research on the way modern computer systems work. When you're done, come back if you still have any questions. You probably won't have any questions, though, because with a little basic knowledge and a little will to research, you'll be able to solve every problem you encounter and answer any questions by yourself.

You have the internet, an almost infinite source of knowledge. Use it.

And yes, lowering resolution will increase performance. We've gone over this already. Actually, it depends on what resolution you're talking about. Lowering the internal resolution of the emulator will increase performance. This is all that you should be concerned with regarding resolution. Changing your desktop resolution will have no impact on performance.

Thank you, But i sure hope they will be more speedups in the emu with speed hacks and so!, I have just about got final fantasy x just about there with a no core pc!, Mabe i should get my self a dule core pc... But what's best?
For internal res, I always set the res up as a multiple of the game's own res by looking at the values at the top of the window and multiplying it by either 2x or 3x, depending on how my PC copes. I assume, please correct me if I'm wrong, but doing this makes, or can make the game's text a little less distorted, the res is then scaled up or down to your external res you setup in the first box, normally your monitor's native res.

If you go higher than your monitor's res, often a fair bit higher, you get a nice super-sampling AA effect, but not quite as demanding as actually using the MSAA= option in GSDX, and almost entirely dependent on your GPU.
Got that backwards using MSAA is less demanding then raising the res like that.
No... on some PCSX2 emulated games using any MSAA instantly makes GSdx my bottleneck while I can play same game up to 4078x4078 without slowdown and looking sharper for example also some games get weird glitches with MSAA while looking normal with higher res, on PC games I'd agree with MSAA being better than rising the resolution tho.
That is odd because the principles of MSAA should always make it faster the mindlessly raising the resolution or Super sampling. Glitches though are expected of any unsupported action and are hit in miss what messes up which game so that I could see causing you to pick and choose.
GSdx also has a problem where MSAA seems to cause pretty severe memleaks and frequent crashes.
Like Shadow Lady said, I've found using MSAA far far slower than simply raising the res, and looking far far superior as well, certainly more sharper.
For example, I can run GT4 quite happily at 3x it's own res, yet I struggle at using even 2x MSAA at any res.
PC games are obviously a lot different, and MSAA is always the faster option. Although, I wonder if Super Sampling will be needed in the future if a lot more games start using deferred lighting.
Ok I get really bad ghosting with this GSDX but with GSDX9 I get better video quality but bad performance. Why does GSDX9 not have the ghosting issues this GSDX does?
Try an older version of gsdx. I don't have that issue in .hack//gu when using 1398 (which runs better with ATi cards on many games anyways)

Could be related to reintroducing graphic glitches in Persona 3/4 in the newer versions of gsdx as well.
It really depends on the game with msaa for me. Some games it works better than the resolution, and some games it doesn't.
