thats probably it, you have an old gsdx selected in pcsx2.

Yep that was it. just extracted that build to a different directory and now it works properly. those annoying black lines are now GONE in Colin McRae Rally 3 :-p which is what I have been playing lately on PCSX2.

The main thing is: Do all games do it the same way, or are there many different ways? The former case is feasible, the latter case while doable would be messy business in the code.
Not alot of games have to deal with these effects but there is still a decent amount. 10 to 15 games probably so even if individual links had to be done, it wouldn't be that much. But they have their source open to view of course. Maybe you can check it out to see how much they had to do. Or, you can probably do something that references to keep resolution at native on the plane of skipdraw 1 since that is the only skipdraw number that seems to be used to affect anything.
Well it's all for Gregory to look at. I may understand the theory behind it and the complexity of it, but I am a novice in C++ (I program in BASIC) and GSdx is not something I understand at code level.
Auto skipdepth (for a long time a hidden default, recently exposed as an option, now deprecated) removes a LOT of effects from games (e.g. GOW, Valkyrie Profile 2, etc) automatically, but Gregory got them working properly. Some info is here:
http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-GSdx-2-0
Cool. Auto skipdraw sounds like something that can be edited to allow those effect to be native rez only. I don't think I'd use autoskipdraw to remove effects because I like to have all the effects in my games.
What say ye Greg? Can autoskipdraw be edited to toggle an 'Effects Stay NativeRes' option instead of removing said effects (like a drop down menu or a check/full/empty box sort of thing)?
Greg says that he is really busy. Honestly I'm more in favor to fix rendering that to add yet another bunch of hacks.

Well lots of effect were removed by CRC not by the auto skip depth feature. It just appears that my testcase uses a combination of effects. So I solve all of them together.
lol, I know what you mean. But that's been said multiple times over probably 6 years. Eventually, I'll be 40 or more. If you do some time down the line, then I would be very generous and it could probably replace what you're working on now. If you don't, oh well
Not all effects are at skipdraw 1 some are farther along the chain and mixed in or after other critical onscreen rendering.
Probably, but I've never seen anyone mention any other skipdraw number to fix anything.
Shinra and the reason for that as I said is because its likely to remove critical rendered objects. The consensus has been its ok to set skipdraw between 1 and 10 and see if that fixes your issue if not then there's nothing that can be done without removing other critical rendered objects.
I do believe Tales of the Abyss is one such game that the misaligned bloom and other effects just require a to high skipdraw and so cause other critical screen objects to disappear.
