Hey guys, so I found a thread with a lot of widescreen patches here:
http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PCSX2-Wid...me-Patches

My question is, how would I go about configuring and using these?
Pnachs!(Cheats)

Check out both the pnach guide and the widescreen patch guides.
Well to give a rough idea:

In the main Pcsx2 folder there should be a folder titled "cheats", there is an example pnach file for a Ps2 game called "Persona 4", this is just to give you an idea of what a pnach file should look like.

Download the widescreen patch in the form of a pnach file and paste it to your cheats folder, make sure it is the right region for you PAL/NTSC/SECAM etc (You can verify a match yourself by checking the CRC code when you boot your game.)

Enable cheats under "File" in PCSX2's GUI

And run!

If the game you want to patch is not in the list you will need to find the values for ratio manipulation yourself, you will definately need to read a detailed guide for that.
may i ask something too since this post is about the widescreen patches?

What differences does the widescreen patch do when you can use a widescreen resolution in the emulator?

does it lower the system usage?

or do you get better FOV?

i have no trouble running most games in 1080p.

i just can't see what difference it would make.

I'm just a little curious.Biggrin
How much worse will these look than 4:3?

Another way to look at it: how exactly is this different from stretching it?
shouldn't ps2 games already run at 16:9 when a widescreen resolution is chosen. the ps2 could run 480p or something like that when you plug a component cable into it. the ps2 was already capable to run 16:9 without stretch. shouldn't that apply to the emulator too?

i have been using component cable for my ps2 for a long time and it's runing 16:9 .

All I know is that not every game supports 16:9.
Some games, like the Persona games, only support 4:3. The emulator, if you choose 16:9, will stretch out the 4:3 picture, making it look bad.

What I want to know is how these widescreen patches are different.
ok didn't know that i thought 16:9 applied to all games well every one i own supports widescreen so couldn't know.
well i don't think patches can make a difference.

if the game is running 4:3 and it stretches when a widescreen resolution is applied.

if the patches would change the FOV ( Field of view ) then maybe and by that i mean removing the letterbox that surrounds the screen on the right and left side letting you see more of the surrounding environment of the game.

but something like that could cause graphical issues.

but i may be wrong, i don't know how the patches effect the game so you should still give it a try.
just send me a result so i know how it effects the games.
I'm getting "no cheats found" when I put in a persona 4 widescreen patch...here's the code:

gametitle=Persona 4
comment=Widescreen
patch=1,EE,2076111C,word,3FE38E39

And I put this file, named persona4widescreen.pnach, into my cheats folder, but PCSX2 can't seem to detect it.

Any ideas?
