Full Version: Is upscaling ever CPU-limited?

Generally speaking, if a CPU can run a game at a steady 60 FPS at native res, could/would that CPU ever be the bottleneck at higher resolutions? Or is it almost always the GPU?
I was wonderin bout this myself; if the CPU has to do some of the computing for the Upscaleing of Graphics, while in hardware mode.

In hardware mode it should be delegated to the GPU. You may take a CPU hit from upscaling, but the GPU is carrying most of the load.
The code to make everything scale has to run when you use upscaling, but this hit can be seen going from native to any custom res, which is pretty darn small. The biggest speed hit comes from your GPU memory either filling up or not being fast enough.
