I use Motioninjoy and i can say that you can use even if you are offline. It's a pretty good program, i don't have any problem with it and i always use when i play.

Xinput works fine with Lilypad. I use it myself (LilyPad svn (r5403) 0.11.0).

I run mine off the USB cable connected to the PC. If you install XInput and follow the steps to plugging in your PS3 pad, It should work fine
