The screen goes blank and the sound stops, the emulator itself doesn't crash.

You mean this? Other than that, there doesn't seem to be anything unusual in the console.
please post the full emulog.txt found in pcsx2\logs or mydocs\pcsx2\logs
make sure you enable the read CD/DVD option in "source" menu of your program log before running the game & reaching the freeze point.
