First, I would like to thank everyone involved in the creation of this program. I am not a console gamer (too expensive), but I still enjoy console games.

So I have been enjoying Disgaea 2, but I don't like the marathon aspect of item world. Now I love item world, I just want to be able to stop and shut down the game in the middle of it, and come back to finish it later. Is there a way for the emulator to save the game where the game won't let you save?

Yes, F1 saves a game, F3 loads it

this is called save state.
F1 - Save
F2 - Cycle through save slots
F3 - Load selected slot

I bought a PS3, but I guess i'm gonna give my turn about the next gen
