Full Version: Odd Katamari Damacy Lag

Hi everyone,

So i'm getting some strange lag in Katamari Damacy where the video slows down significantly but the FPS remains at 60, and the audio plays at normal speed so. My system is easily capable of handling the load (about 60% while playing) so i'm wondering if this was a problem with the ISO itself or if it's in my emulation settings or my graphics maybe?

I have speedhacks enabled and my current settings in that tab are:

EE Cyclerate: 2
VU Cycle stealing: 3

Enable INTC Spin Detection: Checked
mVU Flag Hack: Checked

Everything else is unchecked.

I'm using Direct3D9 (Hardware) with native res Texture filtering Logarithmic Z and alpha correct all checked.

Any ideas?
maxing out speedhacks is probably your problem. What are your specs?

Did you even read the description of Vu Cycle Stealing at 3 - Usefulness is limited, as this will cause flickering visuals or slowdown in most games.

For most games don't set it higher than 1

Enable the MTVU speedhack too.

Thanx for reply, Smile

Specs are AMD A4-4000 APU with Radeon HD graphics 3.00 GHz
8.00 GB ram
64 Bit

I turned the speed hack VU cycle stealing down to 1, and now i'm getting low FPS. I'm uber disappointed I just had this pc built and i thought 3.0 GHz would be plenty because i read somewhere that 2.6 Ghz was the recommended and 2.0 was the bare minimum. Which was obviously ***** i now realize >.< Anyways it drops down to the 40's in FPS without the speedhack and my CPU spikes to about 90% usage. (Crap)

I think i'm up ***** creek because my only option now is to either return the processor and get a new one or try overclocking which i'm not exactly to keen on due to my general lack of computer knowledge and the potential damage it may cause during the learning process. *slams head against desk* Damn that false recommendation! Thanks anyways guys. All good things in time.

Yeah that system is a bit weak.

Just to see where it's limiting - What are your EE and VU percentages when a slowdown occurs? It's shown in the title bar when in windowed mode.

When then slowdown occurs the EE gets to around 90% and GS goes to around 40%. I couldnt find the VU in the title bar i'm running 1.2.1. Why?

You need to enable the MTVU speedhack.

Yeah i'll do it tomorrow, i've been basically going crazy with these emulators the past 4 hours. God of war zip won't extract, and Ico is getting a really bad graphics distortion after i hit start new, and after a good hour of getting zsnes to work with my gamepad mario is getting stuck going to the right due to what i think is a faulty d-pad.

As far as katamari is concerned i'm basically going to look into upgrading the processor, but, i'd be happy to get the specs if your still interested tomorrow. I'm just so done fooling with emulators for today.

peace,

charlievt
