if u r seeing that on the top of the window then dont worry. it indicates the game's native resolution, not the rendered one.
if u want to increase resolution go to gsdx configuration screen. iluncheck native and select 3X or 4Xnative. higher than that is not needed.
u can also select custom and insert ur desired resolution in the text boxes below. but sometimes it may cause glitches.
upscaling will multiply the native resolution with the number(a 3X native means 3 times of the native resolution)
remember that 4Xnative is almost always higher than 1080p resolution.

Apears i can't change the resolution in software mode. Using it to play Baldur's gate: Dark Alliance.

You cant do that is sw mode. increasing resolution is only available in hardware mode.
