Right now I'm using Inter Dual Core E2140 run at 2.6GHz with ATI3850
and got only around 35-40FPS for StarOcean 3

Current plugin is GSDX 0.1.7 SSSE3
run in Window mode with pixel shader 3.0
EE Sync Hacks at x2 Cycle Rate.

Plan to change CPU to E8400 (may OC to 4.0GHz) and expect to have
constant FPS at 50+.

Dose anyone has any suggestion?

If your question is are you going to get 60fps sustained with an e2140 @ 2.6ghz. No.
e8400 @ 4ghz will run the game pretty well, although you will probably still need hacks; I don't have the game atm.
Just for report

Already got E8400 and OC to 4.00GHz without any problem

Now StarOcean 3 FPS is around 60 without any speed hack

at last I can play SO3 on my PC. Cheer!!! Laugh

Dude, or Ma'am I know the feeling.....
4.0 GHZ+ is sweet.....

I used to try playing PCSX2 on a Celeron 2.4!!!!!!!!

Imagine how bad THAT was.....SadSadSad

Good for youTongueTongueTongue
So youve got water cooling to overclock to 4ghz? Have to admit that much of a jump for the e8400 is HUGE, but Ive heard there is not much difference between the 3.6ghz and 4.0ghz speeds for that particular cpu...true?

Ive got the same cpu and thinking about upping it from 3.0 to 3.6 but wonder if going beyond 3.6 to 4.0 is even worth it since a 3rd party cooler wouldnt be enough to cool it?
hey gameman, i tried playing pcsx2 on a semi-fried amd athlon 1.7ghz Tongue
now that was fun, now im running at 3.3 atm Laugh

Why not wait for E8700 w/ factory clock speed of 3.5Ghz has the same TDP
and has a high-potential of OC up to 5Ghz.

*E8700 could be the highest-end for Wolfdale

What makes you think a third party cooler wouldn't be enough for an E8400 at 4ghz? These cpus don't generate much heat (depends entirely on how much voltage you put into them), mine will do 4ghz with only a 49'c load temp on a xigmatek hdt-s1283, and at 3.6ghz I can actually undervolt from the stock voltage so it's only about 42'c load. These CPUs are fine up to about 85-90'c, not that you would want to run it in that range all the time.

Any decent $20 third party cooler will let you run a E8400 at 4ghz with decent temps, especially if you have an E0 revision.
