I've been thinking of upgrading my processor to go with my Radeon R9 280X. Now the thing is, the 6300 has been very serviceable so far and so my 2 main reasons for upgrading become The Witcher 3 and PCSX2.
I guess the question is: How many new avenues does the i7 open up for me? Most JRPGs work fine for me as it is, with DDS chugging in the 40s when there are multiple NPCs on screen. Shadow of Colossus is out of the question, the lag is unbearable, and I dare not even try God of War. BLACK is laggy.
What about non-JRPG games where you interact with the world more? I know Ratchet and Clank games are still unplayable, but maybe other action games become manageable.
BTW, I'm looking into a 3770 because there's a good deal on it.

I would overclock your FX 6300 first. That way you can get some extra life out of it. Also for Shadow of the Colossus make sure you use the VU cycle stealing hack. it was made for that game.
The i7-3770 will be much faster than the FX 6300.
Still I would like to mention:
You don't need many threads for pcsx2. So the i5 might be sufficient if you don't need threads for other applications.
You might need to overclock at some point so you can as well consider buying i7-3770k if you get the same discount.
God of war is not that demanding imo. At least not as Shadow of Colossus.

Personally I wouldn't recommend the 3770 anymore as it's almost 2 years old now. We've switched sockets from LGA 1155 to LGA 1150 when Haswell launched last year
That's probably the reason for the discount then.
I wouldn't buy i7's at all.
You will be able to play DDS and God of War at full speed. SotC will run at full speed with some speedhacks.
But I don't recommend you buy a Core i7 unless it's cheaper than a Core i5.
I would recommend my one for PCSX2 .
If you intend to upgrade to anything intel get a 4690k (i5) and overclock it. You can play anything to my knowledge with that thing.
Reasons for an i5 over an i7, Games today on PC are just now using 4 cores. the i7 is "future proof" But i think by time you find yourself needing more cores, An upgrade would probably be due anyway.
The exception to this is if you do a lot of video editing, Thats taxing on the CPU and you'd want all the threads you can get.

Yours is an old variant. And for the same price (if not cheaper) you can get either a 4670K or 4690K. If you can afford the 4690K; by all means go for that.
I bought 3770S 1-2 years ago and it was so worth it. The Phenom II X4 965 I had before was so weak compared to it
