To that end, if there are any Armored core fans out there, i've got some patches i got working incase you've found your way here by google or otherwise.
NB: I've been using the US ps2 bios v01.60(07/02/2002) and US/NTSC versions of the games where i can because it's been a lot easier to get the cheats to work with them.
NTSC versions of the AC games also seem to play at 60fps over their 50fps PAL counterparts - or they offer the choice of which to run at, at the start of the game.

Some hints for emulation that i've had success with: (My CPU is an i5 3570 and i'm getting 60fps almost 100% of the time, bar some VERY intensive battles and even then it's still playable. You will also probably notice a slight drop on screen where an AC is spinning, like seleting the arena location and before you go to the shop.)
Play around with the settings a bit. I'm on linux with a custom kernel too (Note: No WINE whatsoever, just some 32bit libs to avoid compatibility hiccups), just incase there are any users out there wondering if linux can do it without WINE or windows!
The games look pretty good, (certainly as good as they were on the ps2, which is awesome, though i've seen some more 'HD' looking ones on youtube?) i've not optimised the emulation settings fully by any means yet, i've just made it very playable and thought i'd save people the troubles. Anyways :

I enabled Speedhacks with EE cyclerate on 2 and VU cycle Stealing to 2 as well. mVU Flag hack too.

You definitely want your audio plugin synchronisation mode to be 'async mix' if you're in the same position and using spu2-x, otherwise the audio is terrible and lagging behind the text when people talk.

The other settings...well you'll have to experiment a bit, but hopefully these saved you some time. Armored core games can be quite intensive because there's a lot of rendering going on for battles.

Caveat: You can carry your saves over from AC3 -> AC3: SL in game, which includes your credits and AC, but i'm not sure if the infinite money cheat was working? (Edit: It IS working but read on.)
AC games that have shops in which you can't sell your parts can be annoying with the 'infinite money' cheat on, giving you 65535 credits because you can't afford any more expensive parts. This number WILL go up of course when you earn more money but it does throw a small spanner in the works, as i'm sure you'll see. It's not show stopping though. i.e. If the minimum amount you can ever have is set to 65535 credits, you can't afford an 80000 credit part without winning an arena match or doing a mission well for credits first. If you then had 94500 credits and bought the 80000 part, you'd just go back to 65535 though, so don't underestimate its usefulness!
Workaround: Use the "max money" or other cheat floating around AS WELL or on its own, or just do well on missions/arena and earn more money (your credits then fluctuate up a bit!). (I forgot, i don't think you can SELL parts on AC3 and make money by buying, selling, then buying again. Pretty sure you could on AC2 :/ not to worry.)

More to come at unspecified times in the future lol... I'll get round to AC2, AC2:AA, Last Raven and whatnot when i'm free (maybe this xmas!), i just think AC3 has the best music in the series and a really good story (the controller is malfunctioning lol). In the meantime, if there are any additional codes you want like "All Parts" or you want certain mail or to start at certain missions, grab the codes from http://cheats.codetwink.com/ps2/ and run them through CB2Crypt (i think i only saw a windows .exe, so act accordingly.) - these decrypted codes have worked a dream so far! If you want to make absolutely sure you're using the same isos as me, i used the USA versions from http://www.emuparadise.me.

Hey fellow raven, I am having trouble getting the Silent Line codes to work. When I start the game in PCSX2, it automatically loads the PAL version first and I think that's why they won't work, but I am not sure. I know there is a PAL/NTSC selector in the menu when you start the game, but I don't know if this affects why the pnach isn't working from you. Sorry about asking on such an old post, but I see that you are somewhat an expert on this subject. Edit* I am getting the USA version that you got, but I am still wondering about Nexus.
