could be a regression according to compatibility list.
can you try older revisions ? just to determine when it started to crash

I'm quite new to Linux. I don't know how to install older versions, I just used the PPA from here

I remember playing Futurama a couple of years ago on the Windows version and it worked perfectly

The Warriors and Kings Field - The Ancient City
It could related to this issue (except the thread is likely the free driver)
http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PCSX2-crashing--53763
Will you able to install the debug symbol and attach a debugger to generate a backtrace (there are a couple of info in the previous thread)

Unfortunately I don't know how to install pcsx2-dbg
It's only available on Debian Stretch and Debian Sid. I am on Debian Jessie

I downloaded the .deb for it and tried to install it with gdebi but I get this error
The dbg symbol must be included in the ppa normally.
Ok, I'm not sure what to do next. Also, the debugger freezes when the game freezes
Not this debugger (which is used to debug PS2 game itself) but a standard debugger like gdb. You need to attach it when the pop up assertion appears.
