Any good and free media player that can run mp3/cd/dvd to recommend ? I would prefer those with sound/equalizer meter.
I use foobar2000 for translating ID3 tags, but it does everything you would want anyways.

If you really need DVD playback, you could also use vlc
Winamp for me.

Does winamp play CD & DVD ?
I use media player classic(Included in K-lite codec pack) for any video files.
Wiinamp is my main music player on Windows and MPC-HC with CCCP aka combined community codec pack is my main video player. But I would have to check if WInamp can play dvds as I know it can handle Video files.

Please, don't use crappish pile of messed up random software.

The only remotely sensible codec pack has been CCCP.
Which in turn became basically useless when MPC-HC decided to switch and ship LAV filters by default.

Actually I am using Home Cinema I forgot to mention.
I'm not sure what you mean by random, I always used the K-Lite codec pack which worked great for me.
I remmmber using codec packs when I was about 12 too.
I find it useless now with mplayer

Beside using a good codec, good driver and pc setup is important for performance audio/video.
What mplayer are you using ?
