The GPU usage is even higher now.
It was a constant ~50 % before, now it's a constant ~58 %.

I tested a bit more... using 1.4.0, the GPU load is harmless again.

... unless I switch to OpenGL. Then I get that extreme chugging on stuff like the flight suit helicopter animation again.
It's not AS extreme as in 1.5.0 though - in 1.4.0 with OpenGL, the GPU load sits around ~40 %, and while the extreme chugging still rockets GPU load up to 100 %, it doesn't slow the game down AS hard as it does in 1.5.0.

So essentially:
- 1.5.0 somehow kills my performance, 1.4.0 does not
- I only get shadows with OpenGL
- But OpenGL also heightens GPU load (acceptable)...
- ... and ruins performance during certain animations and the like, with GPU load at 100 % (not acceptable, because unplayable)

So... anything I can do about that?

PS: I should mention that this very same flight suit helicopter animation leaves the GPU load and game performance ENTIRELY unaffected in all modes other than OpenGL.

PPS: Oh, I have an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB, by the way.
Maybe lower Blending to basic ?
Tried that. Didn't do anything, to be honest.

Can you disable Anisotropic filtering and see if that fixes it ? If not then maybe try Preload Frame Data or Auto Flush hw hacks.
Nope, neither of those change anything about OpenGL mode making the game eat my GPU during certain effects like the flight suit helicopter animation.
I'm still confused as to why that very same animation has NO discernable GPU load impact at all in Direct3D11 mode, but such an extreme impact in OpenGL mode.
So... out of ideas?
what about software mode ?
Doesn't that limit it to 1x native resolution and some other stuff?
