When I play Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne there's this strange glitch where it looks like a title card is imprinted on top of the screen only allowing the background to be visible in those spots. Also I can see straight through walls and other similar things. it doesn't occur during cut scenes but then whilst I'm playing again it reappears. Does it have something to do with the configuration settings?

Assuming you're using an Ubuntu based distro, some more (optional) steps will make your UI look more modern:
Additional install:

- sudo apt install gtk2-engines-murrine:i386
- sudo apt install gnome-themes-extra:i386
- sudo apt install libatk-adaptor:i386
