Full Version: Better CPU or Better GPU?

I'm upgrading a computer for someone and I need it to play all the Sly Cooper games at least at full speed.  I upgraded it with a spare GPU I had, but I'm nore sure if the GPU or the CPU is the cause of the slowdowns.  Here are its current specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i7-860 @ 2.90 GHz (8 CPUs)
16 GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745
Samsung EVO 860 SSD (500 GB)

All drivers and updates are up-to-date.  I'm using hardware rendering and getting 60%-70% speed when a lot is rendered.  Software mode is even slower, but it would be with any Sly Cooper game.  My personal Intel Core i7-6700K can't handle Sly Cooper games using software rendering.

So which do I need to upgrade, the CPU or the GPU?
You should upgrade your GPU.
i7-860 is not enough even close to the recommended STP for most 3D games
GTX 745 is fine(if you don't use scaling above 2x and use OpenGL)but that cpu is not

Your 6700K is way better(almost twice better)than i7-860

1236 vs 2354 STP

I can play Sly 1\2\3 on my 6700HQ just fine(not in software mode...there are some slow downs here and there but EE Cycle Skipping speed hack helps if I want to use speed hacks)and that cpu is weaker than 6700K
