Full Version: R Type Final (US) Hard Crashes On Final Level
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
Hey all,

I recently decided to have a fiddle with PS2 emulation again, and have been happily playing R Type Final through this software; I had no issues until I got to the final level of the game, where after the movie between the two levels plays, the emulator suddenly hard locks up. When it does, the visuals stop, the sound becomes a constant buzz, and the gamepad constantly vibrates.

Curiously, it did this every time I played straight through in full screen, but when I paused the between level movie to get screenshots for this bug report, it actually got through to the gameplay for the final level for the first time.

I am using PCSX2 V 1.6.0  with all the default settings as installed.  I have uploaded two saved states, one from before the movie starts (State 02), and one which is the state the emulator ends up in (State 03) as I can't seem to attach them here ("You can upload a maximum of 8.39 bytes at once"  Er, really?)

Please feel free to ask if I can provide any more information. I tried to do the CTRL+SHIFT+F8 dump but nothing seems to have been generated.

(Edited to add; I also had to pull a screenshot from this post, as the text editor here then thought I was over the character limit. This doesn't seem to work well with up to date Mozilla Firefox!)
Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

This was taken after loading the emulator, loading a working save state, playing the following level until it hard locked, then closing the emulator again.
try loading from memcard instead of savestate

I'll give it a go, it will require playing through the entire game though due to being the final level, so I'm not sure how long it will take. Does it need to be a clean boot of the emulator too, no save state loaded in?
hard to say.
just keep in mind savestates can causes crashes.
not using them is the best idea

Ok, I saved my data to memcard from one of the saved states, shut down the emulator, restarted it, loaded the ISO, reloaded the memcard to get my progress back, then ran the game through from the start... and it indeed did not crash when ran this way.

Is there anything else I can test to help bug fix this?

Meanwhile I'll just have to hope not every save state goes bad, because R-Type Final is ridiculously tough. Being able to take a break and come back to the same level another day via savestate was lovely! And there's so much to unlock yet...
It's not really a "bug".
save states work well, but you have to keep in mind that solely relying on this is a bad idea (it's the same with other emus of 3rd gen consoles like PS1)
