In github page is listed requirements being 2 GB VRAM.

Really is need an GPU with 2 GB VRAM in current version ?
I use version 1.7.0.2 and works normally in GPU with 1 GB VRAM.

Depends on the game your settings
At 3x scaling on Valkyrie Profile 2 while running around and doing battles,the vram jumps between 600-1800mb

A game can easily hit VRAM limits, though it's less so for RAM limits.
