Full Version: Persona 3 FES - problems with shadows and framerate (?)

Hello,

I've just started emulating and generally the game runs, but I'm already seeing 2 issues, which honestly I'm not sure if they are caused by the emulation; on the other hand, even if it works as intended, maybe you can suggest some workaround or patches that would improve my experience?

Those issues are:
1. Shadow glitches - I can never see full character's shadow; depending on the context, I can see only either ~50% (eg. when standing still) of it or even lass than that (when moving). This is extremely distracting to me, honestly I would prefer not to have those shadows at all. Also note, that there are 0 shadows during in-engine cutscenes, which makes it even more bizarre. Is there any option/mod/anything that can fix those shadows (or alternatively, disable them altogether)? Here are some screenshots, of how it looks currently --> https:// imgur.com/a/eNhOKZD (also attached some of them to this post).
2. Framerate - This one really confuses me. PCSX2 claims to run the game at 60FPS, FRAPS seems to agree but my experience feels nothing like it; either the game just straight up runs at 30FPS (and framerate indicator is just wrong), or there is some other problem I can't put my finger on (input lag or sth?). It's really difficult for me to be more precise than this, and I have a hard time comparing it to YT gameplays (which also claim to run at 60FPS); I mean, I'm a kind of person that can generally "feel" the framerate during gameplay, especially while rotating the camera, but it is next to impossible for me to judge framerate of recorded video. All I can say, is that it doesn't feel like a smooth experience at all. Of course it isn't a huge issue with this kind of game, but if there is some option I missed, I'd love to try to improve it.

I'd like to say for the record, that IMO none of those issues is caused by my machine, as I already tested on both different platforms (one being AMD Ryzen 3700X + GTX 1080 + 32GB RAM, another being GPD WIN 2).

Thanks for the answers, appreciate any help.

UPDATE: Here are my plugin settings (just for the record, I was experimenting with different options from various tutorials, including switching renderers, but none of those really improved things) --> https:// imgur.com/a/kqjY3b2
1 - don't use custom resolution, try latest dev build
2 - 60 fps means full speed. but it's not "true" 60 fps. PS2 tends to run most games around 30 fps. you can try applying a 60fps patch to maybe get a better experience.

FTR, OGL renderer or Vulkan are recommended for NVIDIA GPus

By latest dev build, I assume you mean nightly 1.7.x? Just tried that, didn't help unfortunately. I also tried every renderer (with default settings, no custom resolution) and shadow is broken every time. See here --> https:// imgur.com/a/pLATciA Performance is also more or less the same.

Where do I find those patches? Is this it? --> http:// forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-60-fps-codes?pid=550819#pid550819

If this is the case, then I'm not really interested in running the game in double speed Wink Am I to assume, that this is the only source, and there isn't any better way of improving framerate? I'm asking, because some emulators that I used (different platforms) had multiple hacks/methods/workarounds for it.
