Thanks I'll try the dev releases at some point.
I actually got everything working last night on version 1.4.0. All my disc's work and I was able to get contra to work only as a .bin but not on disc.
I also figured out how to transfer all my ps2 memory card saves over as well.
It's just so odd that 1.6.0 doesn't work on my laptop and my laptop is pretty new, 2021 with pretty much close to the newest generation hardware.

it's not a hardware problem, for sure. (didn't know contra is a CD)
