Full Version: SteamOS 3.4.4, PCSX2-Qt 1.7.4152: Crashing after FMV in MGS3 Subsistence

On my Steam Deck, I'm experiencing crashes in the US version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence immediately after the FMV portion of the cutscene that plays when encountering Sokolov for the first time ends (I can't include a URL, but it's 45:04 in the YouTube video with the URL suffix /watch?v=Na2MVdoJBy8&t=2704s). Skipping through the FMV portion always works, but letting it play through results in crashes 90% of the time, in which the screen stays black for a moment before exiting to the Steam menu. It has played through the cutscene without crashing a couple of times but I'm not sure why. The game has otherwise played flawlessly up to this point.

The version of PCSX2-Qt being used was installed with EmuDeck 2.0.11 and aside from enabling log files, I have changed no other settings than how EmuDeck configures it by default.

I am using the SCPH-90001 BIOS (US v2.03, filename ps2-0230a-20080220.bin, CRC32 286897C2).

Steps to reproduce the problem:
  • Launch MGS3 via the Steam library as set up by Steam ROM Manager
  • Load a save state I created at the door immediately before the cutscene plays (the exact same problem occurs when I load the game normally via save data in the memory card and do not use save states)
  • Walk to the door and trigger the cutscene, then press X to skip the initial 3D rendered portion and proceed to the FMV portion (allowing the initial 3D part to play through makes no difference)

Steps I have taken to diagnose this:
  • Verified CRC32 of my game ISO against that listed on redump.org (FD4CD834)
  • Deleted the PCSX2-Qt appimage and reinstalled via EmuDeck (no difference)
  • Disabled SMT in PowerTools 1.1.1 (no difference). I am using the latest version of Decky (2.6.1)
  • Launched the game directly from PCSX2-Qt in desktop mode (no difference)
  • Restart the console (no difference)
  • Change from Vulkan renderer to OpenGL (no difference)

Thank you for your prompt response. I downloaded the appimage from pcsx2.net, deleted all of the pcsx2 configuration files, and it seems to be working very consistently now. I will raise this with the EmuDeck team and mess with the configuration in the meantime. My understanding is that EmuDeck simply downloads the latest nightly appimage from the pcsx2 GitHub repository and applies a config that their team came up with, so it seems like this may be an issue with something in the config being set improperly.

apaprently, yes, the script downloads latest appimage.
but they also change some default config because....
...well, i guess they think it's better this way... even if it makes some games crashing
