Full Version: Need help. I have lag and choppiness using PCSX2
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
I have lag in games. The lag is not so bad that its unplayable, but there is definitely a choppiness and lag-delay that is frustrating. As if my system is struggling to process it, but that doesn't make any sense because I run Dolphin easily with 0 lag.

I've done lots of things. I've turned down all the graphics settings to the point the game looks like absolute garbage (and would be unplayable because of how bad it looks frankly), and there is still some choppiness. I've tinkered with settings, reset to defaults, etc, and always still that feeling of lag.

Usually at the top left corner it shows something like: Speed (100%), EE: 37%, GS: 50%, etc.

Here are my system specs:

GFX name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
    CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-10600K CPU @ 4.10GHz (12 CPUs), ~4.1GHz
            RAM:  8192 MB of Ram
          DirectX Version: DirectX 12
User DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent)
System DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent)
      Monitor: set to 1600x1200 resolution (32 bit, 60hz) on a 3840 x 2160 sized TV screen
Quote:but that doesn't make any sense because I run Dolphin easily with 0 lag
What doesn't make sense is comparing dolphin to pcsx2 since dolphin doesn't run PS2 games...
Anyways.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

Thanks, I appreciate it.
I honestly don't see how it's an invalid comparison, considering both are emulators of systems from the same era. While they are not the exact same, it would seem odd that they would be enormously different in terms of hardware requirements, especially when one is noticeably older AND 'weaker' than the other. That's all I mean.

GC Wii is x86 while PS2 is MIPS. Which means it's arch is WAY different than your PC's. And thus emulation WAY heavier.
That's why comparison is irrelevant.

Even if the architecture is different, it doesn't imply that it might require a quantum supercomputer to run a ps2 emulation. Are you sure it's the hardware? That's weird to me, because when I turn off frame limiter I get extremely sped up and fast gameplay (though of course too fast so unplayable). Usually if hardware is the bottleneck, a frame limiter wouldn't do anything. Because what's limiting the games would be the hardware, not any kind of software set limit.

Also my CPU STR is almost 3,000 - almost double the requirements for pcsx2. According to CPU Benchmark.

I think there is some other problem going on - possibly my huge monitor interacting with the games (refresh rate, dpi, scaling, or something I suspect). I'll have to keep tinkering, it seems.
I didn't say hardware is at stake here. I just said comparison is irrelevant
It's like saying : "why can't I emulate a PS2 when I can play Crysis 3 on ultra (and Crysis is really more demanding than a simple PS2 game)"
Because We're talking about 2 different machines, different ways of "running" your game. It can't be compared
It's mostly an advice for your future deductions.

My advice about the update still stands, though
Comparison isn't irrelevant. It can be used to diagnose a hardware issue.

For example, if I just played GTA V on max settings and loaded up a SNES emulator, which then had extreme slow down, I wouldn't assume the SNES is just "too demanding." I would assume that it's a non-hardware issue causing the slow down.

Using a general comparison as a very general benchmark for diagnosis is different than drawing 1-to-1 equivalencies. Do you know logic, bud?

wrong.
Depends how the SNES emulator works. if it's a cycle accurate one like the ones Byuu made, it can be more CPU taxing than a game like GTA V (which will be more GPU dependant)

sure. but comparing apples and oranges isn't part of logic.

so, did the update help ?
