this is my first time trying an emulator for ps2, if this question seems stupid i apologize. Can I use my old PS2 game discs? or would I have to attempt to find a website to download them safely from?

Piracy is frowned and outright prohibited here, so you have to play with the BIOS and games that you dumped yourself.
No downloaded stuff.
