I was wondering if I could use the mouse and keyboard on the emulator instead of the controllers. The controllers are starting to break, so I need to find out an alternative way to play temporarily until I buy another one.

You can... Just map your keyboard and mouse buttons to controller actions under controllers.
To be fair, I wouldn't recommend it. A wired logitech controller is under $20 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VAHYQY . It's not too fancy but it would work fine.

Yes, you are right, this controller is also good. I had one when I was young!!
