Only the original NTSC-J non director's cut should be DVD5.

CRC is 0643F90C. I've ran the game start to bottom and endgame, all the dungeons, all missions, everything really. Maybe the double layer version has some sort of extra content or merely artwork and such? I can't think of any other reason it's of that size and still works fine.

errr...
(SYSTEM.CNF) Detected PS2 Disc = cdrom0:\SCUS_974.90;1

not sure Tongue

In fact this is likely to piss people off due to derailment, so can you break it off to a separate thread?

Hmm that's definitely the DVD9 version. What program did you use to rip the DVD? And yeah we should make a new thread for this now..

I had it bought second hand from a DVD store and i've no real clue if it were legit from there to begin with or where exactly i've put it after all these years, it could be up on the attic for all i know with a whole bunch of old game copies, originals and custom music cds. From what i'm reading there were people who attempted to shrink it down to DVD5 size and how everyone who did that seemed to have problems somewhere or somehow. It would appear mine works just fine though?

The 'forced' DVD5 versions were known to have problems at Chapter 7 of the game. (This is where you would normally reach the 'other layer' of the disc).
On the older versions of this it would then freeze up the PS2.

It's easy to tell if you had a game copy or not just by looking at whether it had a proper CD label on the disc itself. I don't think Lightscribe was very popular back in 2005 if I remember correctly.

Also later on people were still messing with DVD5 versions of the game, and did succeed in making a proper rip that didn't crash in Chapter 7.
I believe they did this by simply removing the intro video or something to reduce the main filesize of the disc.

That might be the case then. I'm glad i have that version then, DL DVDs are expensive Tongue

Well, the reason I let the thread continue after derailment is the OP issue was resolved, so it was a dead thread anyway.
