It cost me $500 to build.
One will be very hard pressed to get a system like yours for 500 bucks. You must of gotten some really good deals at the time. I put together a system equivalent to yours though. Im not sure if the mobo even allows you to OC cause its so cheap as I has to drop it lower tog et closer to 500. And its still over. I don't know much about AMD boards. He still needs an OS which will put him well above 600. So yeah You gotten really good deals on your parts when you got it. This is what I came up with..

The vid card is basically a 7870 in terms of power. I tried to get all the cheapest things I could find as well. And its still over 500. So you got good with prices as thats not really doable unless you want to really buy used/refurbished parts...

That's because those games use all 8 cores and mutiple threads. Crysis 3 does this as well.

^ The prices in your build their are pretty close to what I paid, except I paid 10 less for my 7870, 5 less for my CPU, and 20 less for my PSU(after mail in rebate). And again I didn't have to buy an OS. I already had a copy of Windows 7.

So in other words "I got good deals and paid cheaper." As I said. It all adds up.

^ But your build proves it's still possible to get very close. And by the way you can still get my board for 58 dollars and it is solid and does OC. Also has USB 3.0
I did a ton of research and bought my stuff in three separate orders. I bought it all at newegg though.

OH that's good. I like Newegg. That's where I bought everything for my PC except for the case which was cheaper on Amazon. Anyways... I will never use AMD as it is pretty inefficient but it might be making a comeback with the new games coming out.

Well, it was all a matter of price for me. Despite being weaker at single threaded, for overall performance the FX 6300 was the best price/performance ratio that you could get when I made my build. Same for the 7870.
I also got free shipping on everything with a shoprunner trial. 2nd day shipping, and since newegg has a warehouse in Tennessee that becomes overnight shipping for me in Alabama.
If you count the fact that I eventually bought a water cooler for the CPU though, that pushes it up to 550ish.

Im not so sure if that's the case anymore. I believe some I3's beat a 6300.
