Not able to use start button

I'm sure this is a silly post but for the life of me I can't find a solution. When attempting to play an NHL game when I press start to play the game it minimizes me to the console. There's no real way for me to actually "start" the game. For reference I'm using a standard controller for pc.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

Are you using some kind of launcher or steam
I don't remember what was it but there was a person before that steam was making certain button do something it was not supposed to when steam was on(some steam settings)

I am not using any launchers for pcsx2 I'm using it solo. I know there's a core for it on retroarch but I prefer the emulator by itself

Pretty much me using the start button on the controller is translating to me hitting esc on the keyboard and minimizing the game

This is just when i start the system up. The other would just be filler lines of my game loading in. I've narrowed the problem being that my start button is acting like the escape button. Not sure how to remap. I don't have a hotkey .ini file for pcsx2 to change the esc key to another key

hm. looks like 1.6. what kind of controller are you using ?
