I am playing Mega Man X Collection @ 60 fps, but it drops down to 20 fps in cut scenes and the capcom animation. I've been told that my CPU is too weak. My hope is that I will be able to play more demanding games like Final Fantasy X smoothly without any hiccups. I would like to know if upgrading my CPU to Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000 and my GPU to Nvidia 8800M GTX would be enough to make this happen. Would I also need more RAM?
Here are my Specs
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Alienware
System Model: m15x
BIOS: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1990MB used, 2880MB available

Your current specs are enough for FFX. RAM is not neccessary.
How much does it cost to upgrade those things? If both the CPU and GPU you're planning to upgrade are brand new, they will be over-price your current laptop.

Alienware? Wow. I bet your processor might need an upgrade. Have you change to high performance? ( If you're using lappy...)

You mean under the power options? Yes, and I even set Window 7 visual effects to best performance when I run PCSX2.

processor and graphics card affect performance, why dont just buy an i7/i5 laptop? my desktop i5 2300, can run many games without a graphics card and decent fps.

Laptop can be upgraded, but the cost is high and the components are rare. Laptop manufacturers use their own proprietary standards, forcing the end users to go to official warranty centers when their laptop breaks.
