Opteron processors are very good on s939. If your motherboard are compatible you can upgrade your rig with an AMD Opteron 180 (dual core) @ 2.4 Ghz and O/C it easily.

I had an AMD X2 3800 + on socket 939 and I could play FFX @ 35 ~ 45 FPS.

I would love to have an Opteron but sellers sell them so much expensive !

Have you tried Dragon Ball Z budokai Tenkaichi 3 on your AMD X2 3800 + ?
Which graphic card you have ?

honestly, your better off getting a new mobo.
either get one for an intel (the nice chips that have ssse3 or sse4) or get a am2/am2+.
im using the athlon 64 x2 7750 be (2.7ghz oc'd to 3.1-3.4ghz on stock air fan)
im also using a evga 730a mobo with 8gigs of ocz 800mhz ddr2 ram (borrowing 4 gigs from a friend ) a bfg gforce 8600gts (256mb i believe)
i only paid like $300 total for that stuff. plus i got a 1tb wd sata hd.
i get pretty decent fps on alot of games, like persona 4 i have 60 almost all the time with occasional drops down to 40. and thats running with the internal res at 1680 x 1050. dragon quest VII is at around 30 with that rez but 60 with native.

im just getting at, you will spend more money by getting a new 939 cpu and in a year or 2 going and getting a new mobo and cpu. also, most 939 mobo's can only use ddr1 i believe.

I had a GF 7300 GS and i had not tried budokai 3, but now with my e8400 and GF 9800 GT it's very nice and very playable
But a good intel CPU like a E7400 and a Mobo with P43 (or more) isn't too expansive (max 200 €)

First u must change your motherboard to AM2, try find AM2+ there is so many AM2+ Mainboard with chip prize like ECS780.
Second try using AMD X2 7750 Black Edition its chip only around $70 and the multiplier is unlock, u can overclock this eazy, i overclock to # GHz whithout changing fan, and its fine. After i benchmark with iC2D E8400 it's almost equal with low price (hal prize, iE8400 around $170).
and third of course u have to change your memory to DDR2 to.
I spent about $165 ($75 AMD 7750 BE, $65 ECS780, $25 DDR2 PC 6400 2 Gb)

Actually, there is such an Athlon 64 X2 for the Socket 939. I have one, which is the Athlon 63 X2 3500+ OC'd to 2.6GHz.

Obviously, even my OC'd CPU currently doesn't keep up too well with intense 3D PS2 games but runs 60fps on 2D games. To give an idea on how it runs, Front Mission 5 runs at 32-40fps during in-game missions, main title at 40-45fps, and briefings at 60fps.

Well I would get a new mobo and an Intel cpu tough. But if you like AMD, then why not buy a Phenom II Black Edition 940. Nice oc potential and it's cheap.

As well as that CPU is dualcore will be good enought (at.60fps) in 2d games like disgaia. But pcsx2 not only need good cpu. It need grapich card min. Nvidia 8600gt or ATI HD3650.
