I did not mean increasing resolution beyond 640x448. I'd just play on my laptop if that was the case as it handles 1600p no problem
I meant to just increase resolution to 640x448 and nothing else. Like the codes for SFIII Third strike. Forcing progressive mode lead to some strange results on a CECHA01 console, as it forced output signal to 480p instead of 1080p. The in-game menus and HUD were lower resolution as the system did not do any internal upscaling. Perhaps you could add some comments to your codes to see which lines do what?

I'd just play on my laptop if that was the case as it handles 1600p no problem, by default the game is "field rendered 640x224" giving the blurry sometimes some jitter up>down intelaced, PS3-BC consoles do good job but still present problems like you said, the code i publish call the full frame mode parameters 640x448 and progressive scan (multiple functions and registers as developer intended) also for notes in code will take time i dont have my notes are cryptic sometimes i dont understand my own notes after and need to recheck it, so i always clean code before publish, for the game (tested couple weeks ago some friend PS3-BC) using smooth ps3 option minimize the aliasing and look ok but sadly parameters call dithering is notable in ps3, i leave codes with progressive parameters and withow parameters in ( Ps2 Progressive scan custom code list) my signature if you want to test but theory it will give same results.
